“Dazed and Confused” – 1993 Richard Linklater

High school, a place we think of all glory of maturity coming into conclusion, but rather I’d say confusion. We’re thrown with so much nonsense such as relationships we thought would last a lifetime, girl gossip, having to listen to your teachers which affect our attention span as for most there was so little, and the thought of what’s going to happen after high school– the unknown of the future. Linklater’s production shows the life of teenagers in the 70’s where paddling rituals were favorable for upperclassmen, and hazing into the “cool chick” group was allowable, but significantly the uptake on the use marijuana starting in high school. Reasons could either be the ones you surround yourself with, the music that is listened to as the musicians set the vibes, and the rush of breaking the rules from authorities. Many quotable references used in daily interactions have been from “Dazed and Confused” mainly due to the status of the actors. Actors such as Matthew Mcconaughey, Ben affleck, Rory Cochrane, and Joey Lauren Adams the quotes that still persist today is “Are you cool man?” said by Rory which pertains to him offering a teenager the joy of relinquishing his stiffness with a smoke sesh. The likelihood of viewers becoming so entertained by this production is very, since many of us can relate and see marijuana as a drug that creates a good time. How long can a good time last when priorities are being pushed aside and thoughts about the future are dumbfounded into incoherence.
