IMG_2827Hello & Welcome!

First I’d like to start off by introducing myself–I feel it’s best for my viewers to have an idea of who I am as a person. My name is Samantha Arrieta, somewhat typical to any other girl, as the stereotypes do exist, which any girl told would strongly deny. Stereotypes such as being too sensitive and idealistic…I hate to say it but I’m definitely suited under those categories, but under certain circumstances. I enjoy tending emotionally to sentimental matters at hand because I feel like if you’re self absorbed there’s no room to appreciate anything or anyone else. As much as I’d like to see things for what they are I can’t help, but imagine what could be…the positive aspect of being an idealist is I’m able use my creativeness and optimism regarding future events. Growing up I loved to sit in front of the TV screen, with a coloring book in front of me and just watch movies and color until my mom would get home from work and yell at me for not taking care of my responsibilities…being the only child with chores at the age of 8 sucked. I would just get so consumed into the movie that I’d forget about life and my imagination would roam wild as I’d pretend to be Sandy from Grease singing every song word for word while jumping all over the couch with a pretend microphone in my hand (utilizing the broom to the best of its abilities). Point is…ever since I’ve became older and reality kicked in I forgot about how movies made me feel connected to a separate world where there are no worries.

Now attending Chico State University as a first year, responsibility is at my doorstep, so I have no choice but to let it pounce in and stomp on my imaginative feel. My preference in movie selections are now altering because I’d rather watch an action film dealing with Drama or Crime rather than my usual romantic flicks. Reasoning for this blog–I’m experiencing a moment in life where the harsh truth of crime occurs each day and I’m no longer blind to it. So I thought why not get in tuned with movies or documentaries dealing with crime, drugs, and sex because once before as children we were all told by our parents “cover your eyes and ears”, but now as adolescents we’re incapable of shadowing such images because in our minds those scenes of others doing drugs, fighting, killing and sex are so amusing and give us this adrenaline feel, and not for reasons of being twisted but because we know in reality we could never achieve such horrors, so why not watch movies about them.

What I want to find out is why Crime movies are becoming so addicting, and if the entertainment business is purposely making more films about drugs because of the such a high demand by audience members as well as a possible factor of the film being educational by showing consequences and the side effects that’ll change a person’s life.
